1st Anniversary Dinner

Help! I've seen the horrible reviews about One if by Land, Two if by Sea on the boards. My husband and I are celebrating our 1st Wedding Anniversary and thought we'd go there 'cause it's not typically the type of place we would normally go. (We're big foodies, but we don't do "fancy.") But now I'm thinking that the novelty might not be worth it if the food isn't going to be stellar. I'm now considering Blue Hill or The Place. Your vote? Help me make my anniversary extremely special! (By the way, hubby is a professional cook.) Thanks in advance for your help.

If you want stellar food, and your husband is a professional cook, I would not take him to One if by Land. You go there for the ambience and romantic atmosphere. I went there years ago to propose to my wife, it seemed like the place to do it at that time, but I did not go for the food. Don't get me wrong, the food is not bad, it is just that there are so many other places. I have not been to The Place but Blue Hill is a good choice.

The food is not good at OIBL. Blue Hill is wonderful. If possible, check out Opentable and see if you can get into Blue Hill Stone Barns. I went recently and it was amazing. It's very seasonal and if you go early, you can see the greenhouses, fields, and chicken coops where your dinner will come from. It's beautiful up there and very easy with public transportation. For Manhattan, I would give Cru a try. We went for our anniversary and fell in love with the food and wine there.

      Enjoy your dinner!
