mariscos chente (centinela x culver) review w/pics
so checked out mariscos chente yesterday for lunch...
the intersection of culver and centinela has been a good one for me at my tenure here in the westside (which today comes to an end).
taqueria sanchez, angel maid bakery, carniceria el valle (for prepared meats) and now MARISCOS CHENTE, all basically next to each other.
i was always curious about this place as i chowed at taqueria sanchez, gazing through the windows. then, a friend recommended it at a bbq last week so i knew i had to try it out.
its a casual sit down restaurant with entrees all about 11 bux.
i would say the food is good and freshly prepared, but on this one visit, it didnt nail it. but was still pretty enjoyable.
we first got chips with a salsa of pureed jalapeno peppers and lime juice that was really nice.
we got a shrimp ceviche. cucumbers, onions and tomatoes were nice but the shrimp itself wasnt as bright as i would have liked.
filete a la diabla was the spiciest dish we got. a large filet of bass pan fried slighly crispy with a sauce of chiles mexicano and what sort of tastes like the bright red taiwanese hot sauce that has visible white chili seeds). this dish was nice, but a bit too salty. if we had gotten one of the buckets of beer, this would have been better. the grilled veggies were nice.
garlic shrimp came heads-on in a nice very garlicky sauce. rice was good too.
shimp empanadas came two to an order (5 dollars). they were fried with a somewhat meager amount of shimp, melted cheese, and cucumbers and a few slices of avocado. i'd pass on this next time. i think its the only appetizer...
we had a couple mexican cokes and that was that.
pretty tasty. but nothing to write home about
