have to go downtown for work. Is there anywhere near this intersection to get a good lunch. cheap or exspensive?
On Pico and Berendo, two blocks west of Vermont, is Dino's. Almost everyone gets the "crazy chicken" special, a half-chicken grilled after being marinated in a tasty garlicky turmeric-colored vinegary concoction that I ask for extra, served over thin fries with a side of cole slaw and tortillas -- about $5. Two windows, one inside and one outside, to order, and getting yours sometimes takes longer than you'd expect, because someone in front of you has ordered a half-dozen boxes to bring back to the office. They also have a carne asada special, a huge pastrami sandwich, and good burgers, but the chicken is the draw.
That's walking distance to La Taquiza at 30th and Figueroa. Nice Al Pastor, Mulitas, etc. If you search for it here I think you'll a lot of postive comments. If you are driving, I'll second Dino's, and just anoter block or so west on pico is Papa Cristos, another great place.
