Coleslaw, potato salad, baked beans (or some more spicy kind), corn fritters or cornbread. Mac salad is good, too, as is just about any kind of pickle.

If you'd care for actual recipes for any of these, just ask.

The other night I made Robert's greens with pot liquor along with some slow cooked BBQ chicken. It was fantastic. I used swiss chard. I'd say it's a perfect BBQ side. Thanks to Robert for the recipe, it's a keeper.

I was just about to recommend that! I like beet greens and/or kale the best.

The two accompaniments I want most are a loaf of crusty bread to sop up the sauce and a red wine that can hold its own.

Some of the dishes we like are potato salad, southern greenbeans with tomatoes and green onions, pork & beans, fried corn, tomato and cucumber salad, country fried potatoes, pasta salad, cucumber & onion salad. We like rye bread to sop with.

ice cold beer is the appropriate side dish for all forms of BBQ

My family likes a good homemade egg & potato salad as well

for the egg & potato salad:

Boil, cool, and cube up your potatoes (I use red bliss because of the low starch - keeps the potatoes from mashing up on me)

Finely dice an onion (I use a food processor, since I hate big chunks of onion), add it to the potatoes. Fold it together with a couple spoonfuls of dijon mustard and enough mayo to make it the right consistency. Add salt and pepper to taste (I will usually use homemade smoked salt to tie in the BBQ flavors).

Cover the entire top of the potato salad with sliced hard-boiled eggs - the idea is that each scoop will pickup a slice or two of egg. Dust the top with sweet paprika.

This tastes best after it has sat in the fridge overnight.

I forgot about another BBQ favorite - drunken watermelon.

                  1.) Cut hole in watermelon
2.) Fill up watermelon with booze until it can't hold any more
3.) Replace rind and seal with duct tape
4.) Let it marinate in the fridge for a few days
                  5.) Cut up and anjoy!

bread salad from the Barefoot Contessa

                    homemade caesar salad

                    greek salad

                    sliced fruits

and for some reason, dessert is best when it is angel food cake and fresh strawberries with whipped cream of course
