Floating Rock - Drinks?

Does FR have a W&B license or is it BYOB? If neither, is there a place close by for drinks?

Thank you all. We won't risk it. Will check out the bar down the street, if my friend insists.

FWIW, in a different twist on BYOB a lot of the bars on Revere Beach allow you to bring your own food (in fact a number of them have windows to adjoining fast food shacks). You could try to find one with an acceptable noise level, check its ok with the bartender, and then send one person out to pick up at Floating Rock. There is a bar two blocks before Kelly's which is a dive, but pretty mellow where we have done this and been joined by folks with strollers, etc. Frozen style drinks are more common, though.

I don't think they had frozen style drinks at the bar near FR..not much of a wine list either..:)

i had read somewhere that they are BYOB (they don't have their own license, or didn't at that time, anyway), but when i called to check with them, they seemed pretty weird about it. like, the woman on the phone had to 'go check' and then came back with something like, 'well, i guess, but only like one bottle.' so, we brought our own (one 22 oz. of nice beer to share), but they were weird about it when we arrived with the bottle. like, "well, okay, but you have to take the empty with you (i.e., we can't LOOK like we allow any sort of alcoholic drink here)." something like that. maybe it was just that woman, or just that night, but we were made to feel weird enough about it that we probably won't BYOB again there.

If they don't have a license pending it is illegal and if somebody wanted to make trouble for the restaurant they could. Expensive trouble. Be discreet.

how does BYOB work at other places? do they need to get a BYOB license? is that something that exists? because i've been to other BYOB places that weren't so non-commital about it. so, maybe FR just don't have even that, so it's shady for them? i just don't know how it works- not being snarky!

As I understand it, BYOB in Boston is illegal. The only exception is restaurants that have applied for and are awaiting approval of a liquor license.

No BYOB licenses. Places that have applications pending for liquor license can allow BYOB until they get the license. Also it varies by town, somebody else will have to supply the fine points.

Some places are more cautious than others, for various reasons. Also some areas have neighborhood associations that are hell-bent on limiting alcohol service, and they have (in the past at least, not up on current situation) caused trouble.

BYOB...There is a neighborhood bar down the street. If you take a left out the front door of FR and walk just past the T Station, you'll see it..don't recall the name.

No W/B. No experience personally with BYOB, either seeing or doing, but it might work. As for drinks nearby, can't say I've noticed anything but wasn't looking.
