L'Etoile in Madison, WI still good?

My parents have been coming to Madison to visit me for 18 years. It is now my father's 70th birthday and I want to take them someplace special. My mom always talks about wanting to go to L'Etoile. I have had good experiences there (3 visits in last 10 years).

Would you take your parents there for this special dinner or are there other places you would go first (and I am not talking about the Nitty Gritty either- sure we will hit it on the way for the free beer).

  1. I was there in early July and had a really, really terrific experience; everything from food to wine to service was delightful and I would say that it's absolutely a great choice for a special dinner. The only thing that might be a concern is that you have to go up a fairly steep flight of stairs to get to the dining room, so that's something to keep in mind if either of your parents has physical limitations.

If you go, do not skip the cheese plate!
