We're coming to San Fran in October from Atlanta and a friend suggested Farallon for dinner.
Any thoughts?

While I cannot speak to the food at Farallon, the decor and setting of the place is worth seeing. At the very least, stop by for a drink a walk thru the restaurant. It is quite stunning.

As mentioned, the decor at Farallon is pretty interesting. The food, while not mind-blowing, is well-prepared and uses good-quality ingredients. The restaurant doesn't have the buzz anymore that it did when it opened, but it's still a perfectly fine place for a good meal. I usually spend about $150 for 2 at dinner with one of the less expensive bottles of wine on their menu.

I'd suggest going for lunch. Food is cheaper, and the decor is such that you can't tell if it's night or day anyways.
