The paradox of OC MD - you can't get good crabs there

Looking for good crabs, money not important

Anyone?

Thanks, Joe

Since I am going there next weekend, I want to see what people say too!

I used to live in OC, and we'd go to Hoopers. Not sure if it's still there. Phillips is a little too touristy, although not terrible.

The best crabs are generally at shacks where they steam to order and you take them home with you. No rush to eat them, you supply the requisite beer, and there are plenty of cold crabs to snack on afterwards. Crabs to Go in West Ocean City are fantastic.

How about sit-down, not AYCE places?

Crab Alley. It's on the mainland just after you leave OC via the bridge, hang a left on Golf Course Rd. On the right, maybe .5 miles.

I got carry out crabs from the Crab Bag on 130th street... they have a nice deck out back that some neighbors liked. The crabs were very good.

            Thanks folks,
I have tried Hoopers and Crab Alley a few times; sad to say the results were mixed for both across 4 - 6 visits. I will investigate said Crabs To Go, and have an alternative provided by a friend, somewhere in Ocean Pines, that I shall report on as well.

I found great crabs - someone recommended Sunset Grill, but the only thing decent there was the sunset; behind that by one pier is a restaurant (can't recall name) with great crabs and other food as well. Whatever the name, drive by the pier with Sunset Grill and you'll find a really decent restaurant.

                  Thanks,

                  Joe

If you want to sit down, Mickey's in Bethany Beach (not a far drive from OC) is one of my favorites. For takeout, try Best Crabs (bayside on 142nd Street) or Captain Jacob's (Rt. 54 in Selbyville). Both have amazing crabs for a GREAT price (at least in the summer).

                    Happy Eating!

For my money, the Fenwick Crab House just north of OC is the best sit down crab place at the beach. If there are jumbos to be had anywhere that week, they will have plenty of them. Great cream of crab soup as well.

I second the Captains Galley. Also has good shrimp salad
