Good eats around Dartmouth/Cornish NH, Montpelier/Barre VT, or other spots on the way to Montreal?
I'll be driving from Boston to Montreal next week and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for places along the way.
I'd prefer something healthy and/or ethnic, but I'm open-minded!
Thanks in advance!
Buon Gustaio has closed because the building is being torn down. The one thing I didn't care for at Buon Gustaio was that the room had a dank, musty feel to it. True, Hanover may not have many 5* high end establishments(maybe the Hanover Inn,and the new Italian Place Capricio) most of the dining spots are good, and fairly inexpensive.
There are lots of good dining options in the Hanover/Lebanon area. In Hanover, Molly's is a pizza/pub type place with an outdoor patio. Good pizza and pub fare. Also in Hanover is the Mai Thai for good Thai food. For breakfast or lunch, Lou's is a Hanover institution - great soups, sandwiches and baked goods. In Lebanon is possibly the best Italian trattoria in New Hampshire - Three Tomatoes. It's right on the town green.
Breakfast at the Foothills Cafe in Warner NH, exit 8 off of I-89 though I can't recommend it for lunch. Montpelier has lots to explore. I can't remember names but there is a pub on a side street with good burgers and onion rings. Also the culinary institure's cafe for soup and pastries.
re: chuck s
I'll second the endorsement for Foothills Cafe in Warner for breakfast, very high quality food and preparation at reasonable diner-style prices. Very folksy, low-key "neighborhood" atmosphere. The locals eat here, which is a good sign.
One caution: don't bother to order their version of pancakes, it has some funny name, they don't call them pancakes, but it is this huge single pancake, very thick, the size of a large pizza; it takes forever to cook, and I literally mean it takes 20 to 30 minutes to cook it because of its size. And when it finally arrives, it just ain't worth the wait. But everything else, be it omelets, bacon, ham, etc., is terrific.
hi, try this italian restaurant in stowe, vt. trattoria La Festa on rte. 100 they have great traditional Italian food!!
i always get their fried calamari as an appetizer and all the pasta dishes are great as well as the chicken parm,
see tony or john tell them frankie from Boston sent you!
The Royal Orchid in Montpelier has good Thai food. The Hunger Mountain Food Coop also has a small cafeteria style cafe, but it's variable in quality. Rhapsody in Montpelier also has cafeteria style vegan/vegetarian food that has been quite good when I've eaten there. If you're coming through Montpelier on a Saturday morning, the farmer's market is a great place to munch your way through.
