The few threads on this site have not been kind to Prairie Star Grill in the Back Bay, but I am indeed going there this week (then to Clery's for a drink and the Sox game afterward). Has anyone had a decent meal there? If so, what would you recommend?

Had a couple of lunches and a dinner there, and it's pretty bad: chain-restaurant Tex-Mex, burgers, and some weak stabs at Southwestern. Bad Margaritas. Really forgettable.

Darn....you'd think they'd be better, since they are the same group that owns Firefly and Laurel, which are two decent places. Oh well, maybe I'll just grab a burger there...

Marc, if I were you, I'd ditch the Prairie Star Grill idea (it stinks, frankly), and go to Douzo instea. It's also right next to Back Bay station, and I really love their sushi.

If you're going to have a hamburger, get it at Clery's. It's better than anything they have at Prairie Star. (Which brings Tim's Tavern to mind, but I'm not going to think about that or I'll start to cry.)

I'm just interested in the logistics behind this plan:
dinner ... then drinks ... then the Sox game?

What time is the dinner, 4PM? Or do you have a helicopter to take you to Fenway?

:-D I should have said that I'm watching the Sox game over drinks at Clery's! My bad...

Maybe we'll eat at Clery's instead. Actually, I'm so overheated right now that I don't even know if I'll be able to eat...

Ah... that's much more feasible ;)
And in that case, yeah I'd just go straight to Clery's and secure some good real estate for game watching (ie not the front bar area, which will get crowded and the TVs there are like 17 inches).

We decided to blow off Prairie Star (thanks for warning me about the place!) and Clery's, and went over to Family Restaurant in Brookline instead. Another great meal there, this time getting the Turkish pizza (ground beef and onions on grilled pita) and the chicken meat loaf. Both were excellent, though the heat was killing my stomach, so my heart wasn't really into eating...

We listened to it on the radio instead. We were going to head to Doyle's to watch it, but I started feeling sick from the heat (I had played tennis the night before--dumb move in the 100 degree heat!).

So that there's one nice comment for the record, I've had a salad there I quite like: the marinated steak tip salad with pintos, green beans, and a tomatillo-avocado "salsa." Tips were fine, done as ordered.

Not that I haven't also had perfectly edible salads at your average chain, so I'm not talking the place up here. Just saying, if you ever have to go, you can get that salad and survive.

Not so the shrimp skewers, which are terrible.
