Kemp's Seafood in RTP?

Hello -

Has anyone had any experience with Kemp's Seafood in the RTP area?

I am still in search of a good lobster. I did try Ocean Depot (great place run by a friendly couple from Taiwan), but no luck. I also tried the Asian supermarket in Cary - lobsters, sure, but tired, sad and dejected looking critters.

I buy lobsters at Fishmonger's <http://fishmongers.net/> on Main Street in Durham; they have a usually active bunch of lobsters in a tank at the entrance. I'd call to confirm on any given day, though. Squid's <http://www.squidsrestaurant.com/> on 15-501 in Chapel Hill will also get them for you on a day's notice.

You might try Jezebel's Salty Fare on Durant Road in north Raleigh. They don't carry them live, but will order them and have it overnighted in the next day. Probably as good as you will find in the area.

What is Ocean Depot? Where is it?

I'm guessing the reference is to the Sea Depot. It is a seafood market in Cary, at the corner of Maynard and Chatham. The prices are excellent, the fish is quite fresh, and the owners are very friendly and nice.

Kemps is a purveyor of heaping mounds of fried, previously frozen seafood lacking any kind of flavor. I guess that suffices for a lot of people because their parking lot is aways full but I cannot imagine a chowhound being happy with this place.

Ditto on this. I was very disappointed--lots of food, but none of it especially fresh or good. Lots of happy people around me, though, so there you go.
