I saw a Carvel store open on Bancroft Way (above Telegraph, I think) when I was in Berkeley last weekend. Didn't stop in, though.

Big smack in the head for me! I was watching the store opening up, had no idea what it was. I work across the street. I'll try it out when it gets hot out. That's two places to have cold treats now, Naia and Carvel. Thx for the posts, woulda never known!

Just a reminder, folks, this board is focused on chow that's specific to the San Francisco area. A number of posts about the general quality of the Carvel chain have been moved off to the Chains board ( http://www.chowhound.com/topics/show/... ) and you can continue that discussion there.

If you've got SF specific information, like locations of new stores, you can still reply here.

I think this calls for a road trip with my son....it used to be good, when I grew up in Brooklyn. Will report back if I get there. I always liked their soft-serve vanilla cones.

If you're planning on checking out the Los Altos Carvel, I wouldn't recommend going this week. They're doing some work in the parking lot of the shopping center that Carvel is located in and the number of spaces has been cut in half for now. There's a Trader Joes in the same shopping center, so the lot is usually filled to capacity.

I consumed enough Carvel between the ages of 5-12 to last a lifetime. There was an outlet in my current Brooklyn neighborhood that just closed after several years, and I never set foot inside.

And one coming soon to Danville.

That's BIG news. Please keep informing us of new developments. I LOVE Carvel. I never thought I would see it here. Going to search for the Berkeley one. Any basic directions to getting to it from SF would be appreciated.

Get off BART, walk south on Shattuck to Durant, head east to 2433 Durant. Ask the counterperson in Yogurt Park where to find Carvel Store #521.

It's literally right across the street from UC Berkeley. Taking the 580 across the Bay Bridge and towards Richmond you'd get off on University Ave/UC Berkeley and follow the signs to UC Berkeley. Specifically, take University Ave. East until Oxford (where the street Ts), turn Right on Oxford, turn Left on Durant. Take Durant East past Telegraph and pray for parking. Carvel is on Bancroft (one block North of Durant but it's one way so you can't take it there), just East of Telegraph.
