Nice Thai?

My friend's birthday is coming up and her boyfriend suggested Thai. Is there anywhere that has good Thai food that could also be relatively festive?

Thanks in advance.

  1. La Thai on Metairie Road (thai/Louisiana fusion) has a reasonably festive's more upscale than Siamese out on Vets, and Suhko Thai in the Marigny is closed right now. A new Thai spot on the Westbank...thai cafe...opened recently, but I haven't been yet (it's on Lapalco).

    1. As far as I am concerned, the best Thai place is Siamese in Metaririe or maybe it is Kenner. It is a hike out there but well worth it. Expect quality Thai food, great prices, but HOT! They give you little chile beans from one to five in spice and even when I get two beans, my mouth is on fire so be prpared.

      1. I haven't been to Sukho Thai, but I have eaten at La Thai a few times, Cafe Equator (On Severn near Vets) and Siamese (On Vets near the Best Buy at the Vets exit on I-10). They're all pretty mediocre, though I should probably give La Thai another shot given how popular it seems to be on this board. If what you're looking for is room for a big party, my guess is Siamese is probably your best bet. It's by far got the largest menu of the three joints I'm familiar with, and the most space as well.

I am going to make it to Sukho Thai when it reopens if it kills me. Or preferably if it kills someone else.

        1. My favorite is Siamese (in Metairie). I ate there on Saturday for lunch and had the best beef sate and mas mun curry that I can remember.

We finally made it out to Siamese tonight and I was really very pleasantly surprised. Everything was very flavorful and they made things quite spicy (which we requested). My favorite thing was definitely a red creamy curry someone else ordered, but everything was great -- and my friends were very impressed that I "found" this place, so thank you all for our delicious meal, but also for your help making me look like I know what I'm doing.

          2. My favorite thai would have to be Basil Leaf on Carrolton. They make a reoccuring special that 's a hollowed out coconut shell w/ the coconut meat, scallops, shrimp, and eggplant in red curry w/ jasmine rice that is to die for. it's also a great place to out from after dinner. cafe equater in metairie is also one of my favorites. I would pass on La Thai definitly overrated.
