re: rameniac
I went to one in Tokyo a couple of years ago and enjoyed it. It had a yakitori bar, a sushi bar and also soba. I was excited that the one in La Cienega was opening (it started construction about that time), but it's taking forever.
If it is as good as the one's in Japan, I'm sure you will enjoy it. I'm just afraid that the prices will be outrageous.

Don't let any perceived slickness dissuade you. The man behind Global Dining, Kozo Hasegawa, has an amazing ability to combine excellent, creative cuisine with dramatic environments--and reasonable prices. I've eaten at many of his restaurants in Japan (including Gonpachi) and always been VERY impressed.

It is owned by Global Dining Inc. with restaurants all over Japan. They also own La Boheme on Santa Monica and Monsoon in Santa Monica. I am told this will be a Gonpachi restaurant which is soba and tempura. I have also heard they are about a year late and several million dollars over budget.
