Where can I buy fresh fish in Upper NW, Silver Spring or Takoma Park?

Anyone have recommendations for a grocery store or fish market in Upper NW, Silver Spring or Takoma Park that sells excellent fresh fish and seafood? (other than Whole Paycheck... i mean Whole Foods?)

  1. Upstream Seafood Market on Georgia Ave in Silver Spring- expensive but fresh.

    1. Camerons at the top of 16th ST (right off Ga. Ave) used to have good fresh fish, but havent been there in awhile. Why dont you just go down to the Maine Ave wharf where the fish are so fresh their still floppin?

With all due respect, there ain't many fish still floppin' at Maine Ave. Their stuff comes off the trucks just like everybody else's, and there's a lot of bad stuff around. You have to be careful. That said, there's almost always something fresh, but you do need to know what you're doing.

Another possibility is any of the Korean or Chinese markets like Han Ah Ruem, Maxim, etc. Prices are generally unbeatable too. But just like Maine Ave., you have to be careful.
