We're headed here with another family for a beach rental. We've visited a family in town on a couple of occasions, but haven't been responsible for the shopping and haven't really dined out (though my husband wants to revisit the Fish Tale for lobster). I'm familiar with the Stop & Shop, but wondered if there are any good farmer's markets in the area - or even as far as New Haven. And I'd welcome any suggestions for good pizza or other family-friendly restaurants in the area (4 children aged 2 to 6 between us!).

Hi I just moved to the area and have been exploring. Here are my findings:

Had really good Pizza at a place called Slice on Rt.80 Just over the line from Guilford in N.Branford. (The owner used to work at Pepe's.)

Farm Market I liked: Rt 139 in Branford (Head N. on Rt 139 if coming from Rt.1- approx Exit 56 from 95 then west on rt 1.) I don't know the name but the tomatoes/squash/CORN/peppers etc. were the best I've had around here and not expensive. Their pies 10.75 are really good too. They had an animal farm & ice cream for the kids.

Bishop's - Guilford Rt 1 had good corn/produce a little pricey but they had lots of gourmet items and Very good cheese & produce selection.

Star Fish market Rt.1 Guilford - good but pricey (they have some gourmet items too - d'artanagn pates etc. Westbrook lobster on Rt.1 had a good selection too w/o the frou frou.

There is a produce truck that hangs out on Rt.1 right over the line from Guilford in Madison.

Chow-ish restaurants that will work w/kids:
Som Siam in Guilford had very good thai (I've seen children there). China Taste in Clinton has really good chinese and is child friendly - i.e. they have booths & high chairs BYOC (bring your own crayons).

Family restaurants (not necessarily chowhoundish but kid friendly): Lenny & Joe's in either Madison or Westbrook (I like westbrook more for their fried zucchini), Maragarita's in Branford(average mexican but very kid friendly), The Hidden Kitchen in Guilford for diner-y breakfast & lunch.

Have a great summer - I can't find for the life of me a good baguette so if you do run into one please share.
