Feasting on Asphalt-AB

Did not like it at all. Very disappointed. More about the host...not enough about the food or the preparation of it. I love Alton on Good Eats....but so sad to see it's just another Food TV gimmick.

  1. Well, I'm not going to say that I was blown away by it, but it was enjoyable. It is fun to see AB talk to the owners of the places he is visiting. I really enjoyed the biscuit segment, since I LOVE biscuits and it made my mouth water!

I don't think it is revolutionary tv or anything, but entertaining enough to pass an hour and wish I could take a month off of work and mosey around the country eating. I like the feel of a road trip that it has, much more real than Rachael Ray's travel shows where it feels like it is fake. With AB, you know he is actually driving all those miles for good eats. You gotta respect that.

    1. What were you expecting? Did you not see the commercials. I thoght it was very chowish with the hot dog stand, pickled pigs foot, biscuit place & soul food place in Toccoa. He is showing the various food options off of the beaten path which is much supperior to Paula's sons yuckin it up.

I agree about Paula's sons! Ugh.

I don't know what I was expecting..I guess my expectations were just way too darned high. I'll watch it again. Maybe I was upset over my failed dinner recipe.

      2. Watched it again...still think he talked too much and ate too little. Didn't care for the history behind diners, soda fountains, etc. Wanted to hear the biscuit lady describe how she made them instead of his voice over. I sure wanted to be eating at Shirley's Soul Food.

I was VERY dissappointed by it. Love Good Eats, but AB totally couldn't shut up. I live in SC, and he had a lot to work with starting on the SC coast, and I think he really blew it. If he had shut up longer, he could have covered three times as many great places.

        2. Loved it. It's a fresh change from Good Eats and I'm really looking forward to seeing where he goes. The man is an amazing talent.

          1. Everytime he was speaking to his bike-mounted camera while on the road, you couldn't hear anything over the road noise. Hmmm a giant talking head and no audible voice. You'd think they reviewed their first day's clips and nixed this idea after the first time.

Otherwise, I agree, more footage of the food, less of AB & his crew please. No wait; it's refreshing to see the crew get some attention on a tv show, so just less of AB please. I can't believe I said that.

But the pickled pig's foot scene was great! Kudos to him for even trying it, I wouldn't have.

I agree about the bike-mounted camera, etc. I am a huge AB fan so I will watch the show. I just don't want to hear him talk so much.
