Braised Pork Belly Udon at Beacon, Massimo's....

  • 2

Was in the area--won a free dog grooming in WLA at a raffle--so while pooch was pampered, my wife and I went to Beacon for lunch. Based on posts here in the past, after the good avocado salad, I had the Udon noodles with BRAISED PORK BELLY.

This was really very good. My first taste was a bit overwhelming. I wondered if I had made a mistake. The broth was almost unpleasant at first, it had become so ... gamy. Or more. I usually like ... gamy. It was strong in an ambivalent way. Then you discover the braised belly like so many floating logs of foie gras and the broth begins to make sense. Pleasure mounting. I stopped missing Soba-ya in NYC. I stopped longing for the braised pork at Yabu.

I stopped talking to my wife.

When I came to, it was all gone. I was powered up for the day, and will do this again.

Bought a pair of Vans at the Vans store on Washington Blvd, and pleased to find Massimo's in back (???), and hazelnut gelato that was the best. Thinking of moving to Culver City....!

  1. Pork belly udon is one of Beacon's best.

    1. All of the pork is great at Beacon. I like their tonkatsu as well. It tastes like PORK not that other "white meat".
