Oh MY !!! - Cafe Fanny - Organic Caramel Ice Cream & Mango Sorbet - They got it right ... really, really right

In honor of July being National Ice Cream month, I decided to give Cafe Fanny another try. They only had the caramel and mango flavors today.

After two less than delicious scoops of ice cream a while back, I approached the ice cream with dread. I bought the sorbet as a back up. If the ice cream was as bad as last time, I'd just toss it and see what the sorbet was like.

WOW ... what a wonderful change. The caramel was smooth and creamy. It had the most intense caramel taste ... it was the soul of caramel ... and it won't remove a filling.

Highly ... HIGHLY recommended.

There was a texture issue with the mango sorbet though ... it was magnificant. I've never had any frozen dessert with a silky smoothness like that.

The first two bites I didn't know what to make of it. Then it hit me that it was like an elegent ganache that is sometimes in excellent chocolate ... only this was frozen and pure mango goodness. Whatever type of mango they used had a tart edge to it which made the sorbet even more interesting ... in a good way.

The only issue for me is the price. Yes it is outstanding ice cream, but $10 for two scoops of ice cream just seems wrong.

  1. I do believe they just got a new pastry chef a few weeks ago. Which is why the ice cream is probably better.

    1. Jing, Zelinda (our 3 year old) and I went to Cafe Fanny today on this recommendation. We got the caramel and the peach. The caramel was the unanimous winner. Peach was good, but not worth the $4.50 price tag.
