Gelato at Caffe Trieste on Market St.

I went to Delessio this morning and noticed the new Caffe Trieste across the street. I guess it's been there a while now but I just hadn't been in the neighborhood. I tried an espresso and thought it overly bitter, but I am not a regular espresso drinker, so probably not the best judge. The cafe is pleasant and spacious. They have mediocre-looking pastries and decent-looking desserts, but what really caught my eye was the gelato. It comes from Tony Fiorello in San Rafael. In keeping with my ice-cream-for-breakfast trend, I tried the vanilla and found it pleasant. (A problem with tasting ice cream in the early a.m. is that my taste buds are not as discerning at that hour - I liked it enough that I would definitely try it again.) Anyway, I figure it's always good to know where you can get your gelato fix.

Market & Gough, across from Delessio. They did have some morning buns that looked a lot better than their croissants. I would stick with Delessio though.

It is East (towards Downtown) from Delessios, but on the same side of the street (the south side of Market)...right on the corner...used to be a surplus store for many years.

    2. I recently received an e-mail from Trieste (have no idea how they got my address) saying they had a variety of paninis on offer, and even a goat cheese pizza. That surprised me...did you see any of this on the menu? Just curious as it is nearby and I've been meaning to check it out.

Didn't notice savory items, but it was morning, so I might have just missed them.
