Costco in Culver City, California has 3 year aged Gouda cheese that has the salty/crystaly aspect that someone was looking for on this board a couple of months ago. A big chunk was about $8.00. Really good price on 2 year aged Parm. Regg. too. They also have at least 3 red wines that scored at least 90 points and are about $12.00. I also got the biggest jar of julienne Sun Dried Tomatoes, at least the size of 5 Trader Joe jars for under $8.00. Quite a score. Too bad the purpose of my visit was for swim trunks and a sport coat, neither of which they had.

Costco sends out a publication semi-regularly. In one, about 3-4 months ago, they announced a line of Italian imported foods. I've found good parm. reggiano - the real thing, stamped and all. Also aged grana padano, pecorino romano, asiago, pecorino toscana. Most recently I bought some Comte and an aged goat cheese coated in rosemary (forget the name), both excellent.

We buy our sun-dried tomatoes and artichoke hearts from them regularly, also the extra-virgin olive oil, estate EVOO and balsamic vinegar. Over the years Costco has become our main grocery store. I wish they would improve the quality of the produce and have more locally grown goods, but overall I'm impressed with what they sell. I send into their website regular pleas for them to stock Bell & Evans poultry and Niman Ranch pork. Who knows, perhaps they will one day.

The Costco at Cave Creek in Phoenix also has a wonderful selection of imported cheeses. This week they had buffalo mozzerella from Italy that just melts in your mouth. Eating that with some sliced ripe tomatoes, maldon salt, fresh basil and reduced balsamic makes an incredible meal.
