Paley's Place, Italian. Vitaley is a wonderful chef that takes advantage of as much unique Willamette produce as possible.

balvo is pretty good. Not make you wince pricey, but on the high side for portland. I also like the sushi at Yuki, though non-sushi items are not really worthwhile. Cafe Mingo on 21st is also fairly reliable. The latter would be my pic.

Basta's has a great happy hour with apps at $3 each. 3 apps are a Meal!
