Bullshead Restaurant - West Portal (another steak and a weird question)

So, to make sure that my last vist was not a total fluke, we went to Bullshead again last night for the steak dinner.

Once again the orders broke down as a gigantic buffallo burger and an aged new york strip. I immediately went and pointed out the one i wanted to the chef and told him how i wanted it.

Okay, so this time the salad bar was sort of wilted in some spots, but still tasty enough that i ate what ever was not wilted. The fries that came with the burger were great. not too greasy and they serve them with a side of mayo! The Steak was totally perfect again! the waiter was confused that i didn't want anything on it (like sauteed onions or mushrooms or even steak sauce) i finally had to tell him that i just wanted to taste the steak and again, it was perfect. fat, aged perfectly, cooked to the most perfect medium rare!
the main downfall: the baked potato wasn't so good. it tasted like it had been par baked WAY ahead of time and then finished later, so that the potato texture was more solid and wet than flaky and soft (you know how that happens sometimes....) so i couldn't get the potato to break and mash up with my fork to soak up all the juice form the steak. Ah well, no bother, i pushed the potato aside and just focused on the steak.

Oh, and i think there were vegetables on the plate, but i didn't touch them cause that was not the reason i was there.

Here is the one funny thing about the night:
The menu had this big whole diatribe about buffalo meat and how good it is for you and how the native americans that lived off of buffalo had no cancer or heart disease and lived to the avergae age of 80-90 years and that "they would have lived longer if they had proper dental care" WHAT?!?!?!?
I am confused.
the two seem so very not related and the whole comment seemed so weird to me that it has been on my mind since last night.

Has anyone else seen this funny strange piece of information on the Bullshead menu?

Anyway, have a nice day.

  1. Thanks for biting the bullet and trying this place out..I live in Upper Market and was curious...the prices are definitely not cheap...but the ambiance is certainly preferable to their West Portal "dive", I'll try to find out if they are open for lunch!
I laughed at the 'intriguing' anthropological history they are trying to feed you with the steaks...I do hope they had tongue firmly planted in cheek!

Oh boy, sorry, I thought this was in reference to the NEW Bullshead at 18th near Castro (diagonally across from the Cala) (its' last incarnation was "Talullah's" upscale Indian)
There has been a recent thread about

    2. I have no idea how to do the link, but here is the discussion...
      Bullshead in the Castro
I was in the Castro this past weekend and saw what seems like it could be another branch of the Bullshead burger joint that's also in West Portal. I think it's in the space formerly occupied by the Indian fusion restaurant Tallulah, on 18th St. between Collingwood and Diamond, and there's a bright orange awning. Anyone know the story?

To do a link, just copy and paste in the url into your text, that's it!

      2. ah ha!
well since you are the upper market resident, then you get to try it out. you can contemplate the "yoga flow" place while eating your steak :)
(still hands down the worst name for a yoga studio....)
Hopefully they will let you pick your steak there.
        Thanks for the heads up!
