Colatown SC Main Street - New place

Cat and Cleaver folded under prolonged streetscaping stress. Tonight I chatted with the fellow who is opening Capital Cafe in its place.

He hopes to open their doors this Friday (July 28). Sounds like standard soup/sandwich/salad fare. Plus a tuna burger and blue plate specials.

Columbia folks, let's give him a try. I sure hope the place serves up good food; it's needed on Main.

  1. Wow, it took a long time. I will certainly go there - and to give the Whig a second try. They got a good review in the weekend section a few weeks ago.

    1. Stopped in last Friday around 12:30 and they were very busy. Some folks eating at the "bar" which didn't seem to have alcohol. Maybe that's something to come later. They seemed to be running smoothly and turned tables quickly. I saw a fair amount of pick-up orders too. They had a good selection of sandwiches, salads, and specials, but nothing really innovative like Cat & Cleaver. Everything I saw on other tables looked good. I had a barbeque special. (What was I thinking??!!) I have to say it was just OK - WAY too much sauce. I wish I'd had the rueben or the burger which really looked good. I'll go back and try something else.

      1. I've been twice. Had the reuben first visit and was happy. Kraut was spicier than most, but good. Second stop I had one of the two blue plate specials - the grilled salmon. Very tender and flavorful with a delicate dill sauce. Prices are great.

They are doing fine and really trying hard - BUT - I think their tables are configured all wrong. Lots of two-seat tables, and a few 8 - seat tables. Most lunch groups in that area arrive by fours. I saw several groups walk out when there wasn't an appropriate table available.
