Red Bean popsicles in the Bay area?
Red bean popsicles are in hte freezer at every convenience store in Shanghai these days, and my wife went ape (oh let's say Sun Wu Kong) over them. I even liked them, because they weren't very sweet. Olivia Wu mentioned them in her blog, but red bean wasn't one of the popsicles shown in the accompanying photo. They're opaque, with a nice earthy texture, and have chewy bits of red bean in them.
We haven't gotten around to a search for them, but has anyone spotted them in the area?

They're pretty easy to make actually. Just buy canned red bean paste (chunky kind) mix with a little water or milk and put in freezer and that's it. I prefer the green bean or mung bean popsicles. You can find a wide variety at Korean or 99 ranch market. I agree the Korean kind taste better than the Chinese Tung-E kind.

Thanks to all who have responded so far. Googling brought up this blog entry about the red bean popsicles scored at T&T (Vancouver?). I don't recognize the label in the picture (ours were singles, not a box) but they looked pretty much like the one depicted. They were possibly not quite as deep a purple color, but that could be just the printing on the box or my screen's gamma.

My family love red bean popsicles. We've tried the Taiwanese ones (99 Ranch/Marina) and the Korean ones (BBBig) and the Korean ones are hands down better. They have more red beans and taste less commercial. We usually get these from the Korean super on Junipero Serra in Daly City but I was told that they have them now in the Chinese markets as well.

I browsing was in 2 random small groceries in Oakland Chinatown this weekend and saw them in freezers at both (also ube popsicles - mmmm). Just check out a few groceries in SF or Oakland Chinatowns. I bet Ranch 99 has them also.
My husband was knockin' them again saying "sweet beans - blech! I just don't get it." As a half-asian I grew up eating sweet red beans (mooncakes, halo-halo, ice cream), but as a white guy he didn't try them 'til we were in the Philippines last year and was not a fan. To each his own.
