Zakkushi, Vancouver [split from Los Angeles board]
Wow, that looks like what we enjoyed so much at an izakaya in Vancouver in May! We've been longing for those yummy charcoal-grilled skewers... I think we'll wait until it cools off a little though :-) Thanks for the great pix!

Out of Bay Area I know but yes, Zakkushi - how did you guess? There are a couple of others in the same nabe but we ended up there - we loved it so much we went twice in the week we were there! We had never been to an izakaya before and just enjoyed the whole scene and the food so much that we've been craving it ever since.... I can't wait to try Sumiya!

Yes, Zakkushi was recommended by the Canada chowhound folks before we made our trip 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately they don't serve yakitori for lunch, and we had already made some other dinner plans for that trip. However, we were able to visit Guu with Garlic, West, Fuji Sushi, Tropika and couple chinese restaurants. It seems that the Bay Area has better izakaya then Vancouver. My top picks are Tanto in Sunnyvale, Gochi, and Saizo.
