Turner New Zealand vs Maestros ?

vonger44 Jul 26, 2006 05:54 AM

Need a steak rec for a pre-theatre dinner.
Decor and service aside, which would you try first ?
(been to BH location- decent but not impressed )

You mean Mastro's Steakhouse by South Coast Plaza, right? Maestro's is a different, unrelated restaurant on Westwood Blvd.

Turner New Zealand. All the food items come from New Zealand and most of them (both seafood and meat) are great.

...which means that all of the food including the seafood is frozen and not fresh.

Many are cold, few are frozen.

Turner New Zealand opens at 5:30 and really doesn't 'want to' hustle for pre-theatre diners. I say that because Noel Turner himself told me that he seeks only to serve diners willing to devote a minimum of 2 hours having a 'world class dining experience.' His comment verbatim.

Since both places are quite pricey, I would choose Mastro's for it's larger menu and more welcoming service.

            I'm with you!
Mastro's or even Chat Noir would be preferable over Turner's NZ. Noel's "World Class" dining experience didn't blow us away? In fact we won't be returning. Too many better choices in the local area.

While the food at Turner's is great, the long, narrow space completely turns me off.
