Quick report: Went to Sumiya last week, in general, it's pretty good. (IMHO, it's better than Saizo.)
Pro: Charcoal griller

  1. Thanks for the photos! That variety looks mighty fine.

Were you previously mm on the old board?

In case you don't know, BaySpo free Japanese newspaper/circulation has an ad for Sumiya and contains a small coupon for 20% off.

How can I get that coupon? I looked at a couple of the BaySpo sites that came up in Google, translated one, but couldn't find the coupon...

you can pick up BaySpo in most Japanese Restaurants or Japanese Supermarkets. I picked up my 20% off coupon yesterday and will use it tonight!
          :P

It is on page 18 of issue #830 (this week). Expiration 8/11/06. If you have an issue that is not 830 the coupon expiration might be sooner.

Beware though, there appears to be limitations on when this coupon can be used. Might not be accepted on weekends...

BTW, the current coupon expires 7/31

Thanks KK - I'll see if I can pull issue #830 online...

              2. I went a couple of nights ago for dinner. Lots of Japanese men here; seems like a good afterwork place.

Food was decent. Some may find the food too salty, but if you're pounding back pitchers of Sapporo, it's fine =)

I really liked the butabara, the pork belly meat.
