NuVu (former Gusto) Roslindale

There was a post last week about this place and I just wanted to add a quick note. It appears the post was removed ??

But, went early Friday night before a pub/grub crawl in JP. We got there at 5pm, I'm not sure they were even opened yet. Sat in the bar area at a small booth. The a/c was weak, but the manager came by and moved us to a table right under the vent. Helped a lot. (We were there before/during that crazy storm and I heard from others in Roslindale that there was a brown out and power was not at 100%... hopefully in the future a/c will be stronger)

We just had two glasses of wine and split calamari and mussels. The calamari was good, hand battered and fresh. The mussels were great. I am still craving more of the wine/garlic sauce. The bread was served with a homemade hummus. Pretty good with fresh basil in it. Prices: $9 range/apps $7 range/glass of wine They are running a promotion with app/entree/wine $40 for two. Looked promising.

Overall we were impressed and will be back. I was a fan of the cheese board they had at Gusto. Friends and I used to get the cheeseboard and a bottle of wine and would leave fully sated. I hope they bring that back to the menu!

LOL - that sounds like the same night I had!!

I'm not familiar with that area and didn't know Gusto but the rest of my group was. We had the duck spring rolls and beet/goat cheese salad. We all liked both, loved the bread and basil spread - enough to ask the kitchen what it was: chick peas, basil, sun-dried tomatoes.

It was kind of the consensus that the atmosphere was pretty off - 8:30p on a Friday night. The open kitchen where you only see the oven hoods, the "wine bar" on the other side of that weird banquet area . . . I don't get it. But I did like the food, if I am in that area again I would try an entree.
