So I hear from a Hayes Valley resident friend-o-mine that the defunct Powell's soul food place is set to become... a Zachary's pizza!!

If true, this is truly joyous news to me, as I am currently in a Zachary's obsessed phase and unable to make it over the bridge for the pizza half as often as I crave it.

Huh? A small, stuffed crust, two toppings pizza at Zachary's is about $15, which is a full meal for two hungry adults. A large, "thin crust," two toppings pizza at just about every other pizza place in the bay area is about the same price, and goes as far.

There suggested serving sizes are complete BS. A sixteen inch pizza (which they call extra large but many other places call large) will not serve 4-5.

Since when do five people share a 16 inch pizza?

A 16 inch pizza is almost two dollars less at Orgasmica, which is also expensive. Za is less, as are most other non "fancy" pizza places.

I stand by my comments, nearly $16 for a friggin plain pizza.

It took far too many Cal students far too many visits to figure it out, but if you eat more than two slices of Zachary's pizza, you are uncomfortably full. 2 and a half for a big eater.

There is not another pizza in the world that I couldn't possibly eat a third slice of, and I don't even have a huge appetite. Whenever the pizza would show up (finally), it would seem far too small for our needs, but there were always leftovers - which were highly coveted.

but the serving suggestions for zachary's stuffed pizzas are fairly accurate (most adults can only have 2 slices during a meal) and the stuffed pizzas are quite reasonably priced as well

I see the problem. A 16" X-large at Zachary's is the thin crust. You'll get no argument from me that the thin crust is a bad deal at Zachary's. The only reason to go there is the stuffed crust, which, pound for pound, is a good deal IMO.
