Taste in Hillcrest

I recently visited the Taste Cheese shop in Hillcrest. It was great. They have you take a taste before you decide what you are going to buy. Nothing is presliced, they slice exactly the amount you want and need.

  1. Hi NHF,
Do they have the good french cheeses like Epoisses, Mimolette and Pierre-Robert? Those are three of my favorites.

They had Epoisses and Mimolette at Global Village on India Street...(last time I went was Saturday morning before World Cup Final)

epoisses, mimolette, pierre robert, pont l'eveque, chaorce, st agur and other frenchies, as well as a cart loaded with about 10 different goudas and cheeses from lots of other places too. bonus points on the fact you can grab a glass of vino from wine steals (next door) and sip while you sample.

They have a pretty large selection that changes as they get new stock.

They do carry a great deal of other stuff like Foie gras mousse, butters, chocolates, salami and sobrasata and great fresh bread.

        2. TASTE rocks! I manage to find some new vice every time I walk in. It doesn't hurt that the proprietors are foodies and wine geeks who always have great recommendations and serving ideas. Easily the best cheese shop in SD.

          1. I know this is an old thread but I went by the other day and the shop was papered up and closed. I have purchased some cheeses from them at the Farmer's markets, so I know they are still around. Did they move or shutter the location to sell only at farmer's markets?

I believe so, actually... FoodbuzzSD reported it not too long ago.

Yeah, the shop has been closed for a few months now and they're only selling at the Little Italy Farmer's Market

I think they may be at the North Park FM as well. Perhaps others??

They are at many of the Farmers Markets and they stll live up to there name and have you taste it prior to purchasing. I have seen them at Normal Heights on Weds and N Park on Thurs.
