Visiting from Los Angeles, looking for really good food with reasonable prices near Essex House

We are making another trip to the Big Apple. Past favorites were Uncle Vanya's and Mikonos. Looking for affordable places with great food that are not too far to walk from the Essex House. You have always been so much help in the past. This trip we get to stay for a week so we can use a number of good suggestions. I know it is asking alot but maybe you could also include a phone number or web site URL so we can make reservations. Thanks

  1. Essex House is on 59th St. (Central Park South). If you're willing to walk to 9th Av. and then walk south, there are a bunch of good inexpensive places, such as Grand Sichuan International just north of 50th St. and Ariana Kebab House between 52nd and 53rd Sts. One question, though: What price range is "affordable" to you? These places are fairly inexpensive (Grand Sichuan is about $20/person for dinner, Ariana $25-30). But if you don't mind spending more, that would be useful to know.

    1. On 9th, check out Uncle Nick's for well-prepared Greek food served in a taverna-style setting. Old San Juan is also worth going to for their tasty Puerto Rican food.

Also on 9th, Amy's Bread is a good place to go for breakfast, lunch or a snack.

An excellent resource for dining in NYC is, where you can find restaurant listings by neighborhoods, addresses, telephone numbers, website links (when available) and, of course, menus.

Enjoy your visit to NYC and Bon Appetit!

      1. Burger Joint in Le Parker Meridien hotel is really good. You enter in on 57th or 56th in between 6th and 7th Avenues. It's behind a big brown curtain in the lobby.

Empanada Mama is great. 9th Ave. at 51st St.
