Actually, the Park Cafe on 7th Avenue between Union and Berkeley has a great cakes and pies. I mean they're standard like banana cream pie, chocolate cream pie and an awesoume chocolate layer cake with cherries, but they're not that standard "icing made with crappy lard" crap. They're made by some Greek baker that delivers to the restaurant. The coffee and tea isn't that bad either.

Not exactly a dessert place, but T'ost (on Seventh Ave. near 14th Street or thereabouts) had a couple of fabulous desserts: a lavendar panna cotta and a dessert (don't know if it has a specific name) that features a disk of mascarpone cheese, topped with fresh raspberries and chestnut honey. I think they also have dessert wines.
