Montecito recommendations

sdnativa Jul 21, 2006 07:48 PM

Dear chowhounds: need recommendations for restaurants in Montecito for a dual purpose occasion: 50th birthday and future inlaws meeting each other for the first time.

I am looking for something fairly upscale but non-pretentious, well-priced, where we can coverse easily (ie not too noisy). Ethnic/exotic cuisines would be pushing the envelope.

Hope I am not asking too much!! Thank you for your recommendations!!

If you don't want pretension, why Montecito? ;^)

      Just kidding.

From the description of what you're looking for, Montecito Cafe is perfect. The menu won't challenge you, but it will be executed well. For Montecito, the prices are quite reasonable. The room is light and airy, and it shouldn't be too noisy for conversation.

      Sounds like you're all set.

Stella Mares overlooking the Bird Refuge in a lovely French Country old manse is a very nice choice. Agree also Montecito Inn is a good choice. Mollie's on Coast Village Road can be perfect ,and then sometimes not so perfect.

I think the restaurant at the Montecito Inn is a great value on Coast Village Road. The food is good (it doesn't push the envelope and it's not ethnic) and I think the prices are terrific for what you get.
          Trattoria Mollie is terribly overpriced.
