Fish Dishes (Studio City/Sherman Oaks)

Hey Board-

I'm after a good suggestion for a great fish dish, not sushi or Japanese since I know those spots.

Rather a spot that has fish plates with rice, potatoes, vegi style plates?

Thank You,

P.S.-Already know about MAX'S

  1. If you're willing to drive east a bit, you could go to the Galley at Fish King, on Glendale Ave. just a block north of the 134 freeway. It's a fish market (the very best one there is) and they have a little prepared-food counter on the side. They have a decent-sized menu, and if you don't like what you see on the menu, they'll cook any fish or seafood you buy from the market side for you.

Be careful of the "fried" sitting under the heat lamps... unless it's fresh, it's pretty terrible. The salads in the cooler are pretty good.

They apparently have listened -- the fried stuff looked actually edible today when I went.

    2. Oh, I heartily second the Fish King recommendation. And yes, if you can, opt for the fried-to-order rather than the premade in the hot counter. Also if you love fish you'll drool at the selection of fresh fish to take home. Nice place!

Also the 99 Ranch at Sepulveda and Victory will fry anything you pick from the refrigerated fish case. I've done that a few times with whatever looks good -- get a piece of fried fish, some fruit, and a canned drink, take it over to the bird sanctuary across the freeway on Woodley, and sit on the grass for a picnic. You might even catch a game of cricket if you're lucky.
