Ralph and Kacoos?
I LIVE SOUTH OF NEW ORLEANS IN LOUISIANA AND HAVE EATEN AT MOST OF THE RALPH AND KACOO'S IN THE PAST. AFTER RALPH AND KACOO OLINDE SOLD THE CHAIN TO PICCADILLY CAFETERIAS, THE RESTAURANTS STARTED GOING DOWNHILL FAIRLY QUICKLY. SINCE PICCADILLY CAFETERIAS SOLD THE CHAIN, WHICH AT THE TIME CONSISTED OF SEVEN UNITS I BELIEVE, THEY FELL COMPLETELY OFF OF THE RADAR. THE FOOD QUALITY DISAPPEARED COMPLETELY. WHEN RALPH AND KACOO WERE STILL IN CHARGE, THE BATON ROUGE LOUISIANA UNITS WERE THE BEST. I NEVER DINED AT THE UNIT ON BLUEBONNET ROAD WITHOUT SEEING ONE OR BOTH OF THEM THERE.
This was where I actually had one of my better meals in NO. What was good about it was that I had gone with a group and there were choices on the menu that satisified those looking for 'more adventurous NO chow" (alliagtor, etc...) and also those looking for more 'normal' food.
There are better NO-style places in the city but it was definitely quality, good food IMHO
I'm from Louisiana, so I grew up going here. There are three that I know of, one in Bossier City, one in New Orleans and one in Baton Rouge. I've been to the one in Bossier and the one in Baton Rouge.
I recall it being really good. Fried catfish was great. I also remember the crab salad sandwich being delish.
Overall really good, but you can probably find better local food at a non-chain, family owned location.
There's also one in Lufkin, Texas, of all places! I've eaten at it and the ones in Bossier City and Baton Rouge. There was one in Dallas that I ate at about 15 years ago, but it went away. My experience has been that it's solid and okay but nothing to go out of the way for. Sort of an upscale Red Lobster, but with the large number of choices as LW mentions below.
