My date has a soft voice -- help!

Looking for a romantic inexpensive restaurant where you can hear your date even on a Friday night, in Noho/EV/Nolita. I spent our last dinner repeating "I'm sorry, can you say that again?" like a fool. Would still like a 20's crowd, though.

Any suggestions appreciated!

Get in nice and close, dude!

    Have fun.

I second Enoteca Barbone and Gnoccho and would add Lavagna on E. 5th, Perbacco on E. 4th (although not that romatic) and Assenzio, also on E. 4th, which isn't as good as Perbacco, but very quiet and very romantic.

I like the patio seating out back at Gnoccho on the north side of Thompkins Square Park.

Find someplace where you can sit next to each other instead of across from each other.

I'm a soft talker too, so my boyfriend's always asking me to repeat myself :) Last weekend we had dinner at Enoteca Barbone in the E Vill, which has a quiet patio in the back. Outdoor dining might be a good idea in general since you won't have to conted w/poor room acoustics.
