Not sure if this is too late, but Sarabeth's on 80th and Amsterdam is also great for breakfast.

-Breakfast- Barney Greengrass on 86th and Amsterdam. Delicious smoked fish.. if you like that...
-Good enough to eat- 80 ish and amsterdam- standard breakfast fare that's very delicious.
-Le Pain Quotadion- belgium coffee shop chain on 84 and amsterdam. delicious coffee, croisant, salads, sandwiches, muffins
-Celeste- cash only, inexpensive italian... usually a wait for a table, kind of an expereince- the owner likes to tell you about the cheese he has in broken english with a heavy italian accent. though i can't tell if its fake.
      - Ali Baba- Falafel and Shwarma. 85th and amsterdam. DELICIOUS
      - Haru- Sushi on 80 ish and amsterdam. Delicious

Just some ideas... take a walk around amsterdam in the 70's and 80's... columus too... good stuff in that neighborhood.
