Where to buy fine sherries?

Spoony Bard Jul 18, 2006 07:11 PM

Haven't found a wine store yet in Manhattan that carries a good selection of unique Spanish sherries. Any clues?

To give you an idea, I'm specifically looking for La Cigarrera Manzanilla (which can be had by the copita at Tia Pol) and Sandeman Oloroso Royal Corregidor.

Thanks, you Fino hounds, you.

Sherry-Lehmann can order anything you are looking for & they deliver.

PJ's, in "northern" Manhattan, has an extensive selection of Spanish wine - might be worth inquiring about the sherries ....

Hey Spoony, when you have a chance, could you post a tasting note for the Manzanilla on the Wine board? I've not had it. When I checked winesearcher.com for availability, I was surprised to see only West Coast retailers listed, though doesn't mean it's not in other storees.

My pleasure, Melanie! In my novice opinion, it was truly a superb wine, and well worth the effort. In fact, I'm making the solera a key stop on my upcoming Andalusian odyssey this fall.

Thanks much, and here's a link to your posting on the Wine board.

Have you asked your local wine store to order them for you? If they are distributed here in NY, any shop can, and should, special order for you. Sandeman Royal Corregidor is distributed by Southern and any liquor store can get it in a day or two.

Haven't asked that yet of my local wine store. Though I wouldn't mind giving my local (Harlem Vintage) the business, it would be nice to find a store with a wide selection of smaller sherry producers. That way I could experiment more.

But there is good news! I found a store that carries La Cigarerra. Posted my discovery on the wine board, but to save you the suspense, I'll say that it's only at the Greene Grape in Ft. Greene.

just to follow up on this question, I found that PJ Wines in Inwood is very enthusiastic about sherry and has an amazing selection, great prices, too. La Gitana just $8.47 for 500ml.
