SIMON (at the Hotel Sofitel) ... brief report

Had the chance to stop by SIMON this past weekend.

Looked over the menu and none of the entrees jumped out so the 3 of us decided to dine on appetizers alone.

The details ...

Shellfish platter: An assortment of lobster, crab legs, shrimp, clams, mussels with horseradish. It was ok, nothing spectacular, esp. at 38/person.

Crabcake: The place calls this the "colossal crabcake" for some reason, I call it a colossal mistake. Very little taste to it.

Beef tartare: Not a bad dish, esp. when paired with the horseradish creme that accompanied it.

Margherita pizza: Good crust and just the right ratio of cheese to tomatoes. One of the standouts of the night IMO.

Also ordered up a side of Tater Tots and Onion Rings. How can you mess up tater tots, right? Thankfully, the kitchen didn't. They were crunchy and just a bit sweet with a nice earthiness to them. Onion rings were good as well. But for $8 for each, quite a price to pay for comfort food ...

Table next to us had what appeared to be the lamb porterhouse and the meatloaf, looked tempting enough ... maybe next time ...
