Simple lobster in DC or NOVA

jdeadline Jul 18, 2006 03:03 PM

Any suggestions where I can get a simple boiled or steamed lobster in the DC area? Doesn't have to be a fancy place, but I'd rather avoid Red Lobster. Thanks.

I generally go to City Lights on Conn Ave above Dupont Circle and get their lobster special.

What could be simpler than going to a good grocery or seafood store, buying some lobsters, and preparing them at home?

Hank's Oyster Bar does a good lobster roll.

Sea Catch is an excellent choice. It's not cheap. But it is a wonderful setting with great service and very fresh seafood. Request a table in the back room, not the bar area.

I might also suggest Oceanaire downtown. A more corporate setting, but certainly sufficient.

Most of the downtown steak houses do a good job with plain lobster. I prefer The Palm but the Connecticut Avenue Morton's will also do. Of course, all of these things weigh in at something like 5 1/2 pounds and don't come cheap.

try the fish market on Maine Ave -- you can get a lobster steamed, and eat it there with drawn butter or take it home. It's a great scene if you haven't been.
