Fried Okra in CA?

As a transplanted Texan, I really, really miss fried okra. Anyone know of California BBQ/soul food/Southern/whatever restaurants that serve the good stuff?

I'm near Sacramento, but I travel quite a bit. Recs from any part of the state are welcome.

Help a girl out, eh?

  1. OK, its not Sacramento or even California, but M and M's in Reno (its on Mill St, almost in an industrial neighborhood not too far from the airport) has some good fried okra. Some of their other items are hit and miss (we had a mini-chowdown there a while back) but the okra is definitely worth it. Also good fried chicken. BTW, there is some really good okra in the local farmer's markets right now...why not make your own?

    1. Thanks a lot, janetofreno. I'm in Reno often enough -- will check it out.

The reason I don't make my own? Too hot to deep fry!
