I would like some recommendations for good eating in the area. Any suggestions?

Try the Bunnery for breakfast. Great Home baked pastries, breads...huge omlettes. You can't go wrong!

Another breakfast note: Jedediah's House of Sourdough looks like a great choice, but it isn't. Truly awful, at least the morning I went. They couldn't even manage to get the coffee hot.

I very, very, strongly have a different take! I'm sorry that you had a bad experience, but I've been going to Jedeiah's for many years with never a bad meal. We actually live in the midwest and go to Jackson periodically (mostly because we love the Tetons), but also to feast on Jedediah's sourdough pancakes -- the best I've ever eaten. And the coffee's always been good, too.

Also, if you're hiking in the park, the (Jenny Lind?) lodge has a great trout dish at lunch.

It's hard to find bad food in this town: there are many very solid chefs doing great food here. I first ate ostrich in Jackson Hole and it was amazing. Walk around town, look at menus in windows, and book where you think the food looks interesting. I think you won't be disappointed.
