I have a class down there tonight and want to eat something before hand. Any recs on an inexpensive place in walking distance? Thanks in advance.

Shan at 474 Third. Cheap Pakistani, style, menu, and prices very similar to Shalimar or Naan 'n' Curry. Very clean as those places go.

For a quick inexpensive sandwich or salad, try the Brickhouse Cafe on Brannan between 3rd & 4th.

I tried it last week for the first time and was impressed.I got an above average burger with bleu cheese and very good thin crispy fries all at a pretty reasonable price.

Our total bill for two burgers, a chicken sandwich and four Fat Tires was about $40.

Thanks for the link to Brickhouse. I ate there when they first opened and was never impressed. I was thinking that they weren't open late, but they have dinner now and Saturday brunch.

Wow, Wagyu Burgers. I wonder what the crepes are like that are served for brunch. I'm in that area on Saturdays sometimes so I'll probably give Brickhouse another try.

Thanks for the info. Both Brick House and Shan sound like potentially good finds.

Amici's East Coast Pizzeria, 3rd and King, is also excellent. Best New York-style pizza I've had outside John's on Bleecker Street.

Some of the take-away food at the SOMA Whole Foods is pretty good and if you don't go crazy (the hard part for me since I tend to over-buy) its not too pricey. They have tables so you can eat there if you want. And its certainly fast and easy.

Thanks everyone. I ended up at Brickhouse and had the burger. Very good! Perfectly cooked (medium rare for me) and not overdone with the spices and additives. I am one who enjoys a flavorful burger that tastes like beef, not one that tastes like what's been added to the beef. The fries were very good too.

Also, an update...Shan's is closed and a sign on the window said it would re-open under new management as Naan n' Curry.
