Online gourmet food purchasing

There are a LOT of sites to choose from, more items than I can shake a leg at, and a huge range of pricing. igourmet seems like it's reasonably priced and has a great selection. gourmetfoodmall is huge!

Anyone purchase items from online gourmet sources? Any feedback, comments, suggestions, sites to use or avoid, favorites etc etc??

  1. For spices I like Penzeys. For a mixture of gourmet items I like Zingermans in Ann Arbor MI. For meat Allen Bros. in Chicago. Wolfermans makes great english muffins in a variety of flavors. Hope this helps.

Zingermans looks good, I have been on their website and requested a catalog. We have Penzeys locally.

    2. I've had very good luck with igourmet for cheese. They have an astonishing selection, and their prices are very good.

Chefshop is good for vinegars, salts, olive oils, and many other items.

I prefer to buy locally, but sometimes I've just gotta have barrel-aged feta, novella olive oil, etc.

      1. Nueske's for bacon
        igourmet for cheese
        Penzey's for spices for bases
(Wolfermans english muffins were a huge disappointment to me.)

I could eat Nueskes until I would croak from sheer bliss. Talk about stellar bacon! I have checked out igourmet and thought they looked very inviting. Thanks for the recommendations on the cheese. We have a local company, Five Star Food Base that makes great soup bases.

        2. Tea from Murchies, game from D'Artagnon, mushrooms from Fresh and Wild (?), white truffle pate from somewhere... all were good foods and good experiences.

          1. Looking around to refill the carmague salt we recently brought back from France, i found saltworks ... great selection of sea and other salts. Prices seem reasonable, and shipping is very fast.
