Willits, Ardellas and Purple Thistle
Last week, on another trip to Willits, went looking on a Saturday night for a place to eat. Figured I would try the much touted Ardella's for breakfast the following morning finally, where I always see it located right on Commercial Street near the intersection of Highway 101 (South Main Street). Come to find out that it has now moved around the corner about a block away, which is south on 101 (South Main Street). They have not opened yet I was told, but the signs are up. So as of 6/8/06, they had not opened yet.
But, we tried a great place for dinner that night. The Purple Thistle Restaurant, at 50 South Main Street (across from the new Ardella's). As they also had outside rear patio dining, the interior was not filled to capacity. We were pleased with the entrees that the four of us had. I had Cajun Tofu with a great rice pilaf and fresh sauteed squash. Yum. Triangles of firm tofu were blackened/pan fried in Cajun spices. Wife had halibut in lemon/rosemary sauce. Others had the halibut in Cajun seasoning, and a special of Fettucine Alfredo with seafood. She raved about it. All came with a salad, and a soy/vinegar dressing as a choice on spring mix greens. My daughter had the Harris Ranch steak that was expertly prepared. Wine was available, and delicious.
I highly recommend this place as it is organic/seasonal preparations, and according to the owner, has been there twelve years and has no competition in the area. We were pleasantly surprised by our meal, and surprised no one else had written about it before.
