White Manna was Great
Any other historic places like this within driving distance of NYC?
(Already done Rutt's Dogs.)
Maybe an old-school Italian deli? An old pizza place? A boardwalk fast food hut?

Boardwalk?
If you don't mind driving a few hours, Ocean City NJ has a great boardwalk with lots of historic eateries. Mack & Manko's Pizza, Kohr's Frozen Custard, Johnson's Caramel Corn are all EXCELLENT.
And on the way there and/or back, you can zip into Atlantic City for the BEST SUB IN THE UNIVERSE, at White House Sub Shop. It's been around since the 1940's. -
Which White Manna did you visit? North Bergen or Hackensack? You can try Kinchley's Tavern on the Mahwah/Ramsey border for excellent thin crust pizza. Dates from the 1930's. GW Bridge to 4 West to 17 North. Franklin Tpke. exit, bear right and go 1/2 mile on the right. Can't think of any other classics... maybe the Bendix Diner, which isn't very good or Hiram's hot dog place in Fort Lee which I'm not even sure is still there. Lido, in Hackensack, may qualify...Old time pizza place way north on Main St.
