Any Lobster Rolls in San Diego?

Pablo Jul 13, 2006 06:30 PM

All this talk of Lobster Rolls on the New England Boards and even San Francisco has me wondering if I can find one in San Diego! Has anyone had a Lobster Roll in San Diego, good or bad?

I know Studio Diner in Kearny Mesa has lobster rolls. Having never had one before, I had nothing with which to compare it but I thought the one I had was pretty tasty!

Boston and Maine, top floor of Horton Plaza does belly clam rolls and shrimp rolls...and they have lobster...never looked to see if they had lobster rolls after I got real belly clam rolls again....

My husband says they do sell lobster rolls.

We just both *really* like belly clams....

My wife had a lobster roll at Studio Diner last month. She was completely underwhelmed.

When Studio Diner first opened (within the first three months) Hubby and I went there and got the belly clam roll. The clams were way overcooked, almost burned, and the roll it was served on was stale/old bread. (Our other order was the basic chili size; it was not special). Needless to say, we have not been back.

I, too, was disappointed in the quality of the lobster used at Studio Diner. The meat was shredded too finely; I wouldn't be surprised to find out that they use canned lobster (is there such a thing?) After having had the real deal in Boston and New York, I am still looking for some good lobster rolls in San Diego...

It's definately an East Cost thing, I think the price to ship lobsters out here would make it very expensive to make and sell, on the EC boards they advertise lobsters at under $4. pp. Also, the EC has a lot of CH activity for Steak Tips, I've had them out there but, you won't see them here.
