Good ice cream near Fanueil Hall?

I'm taking out-of-towners to Durgin Park tonight. Really excited about trying the indian pudding there.

If I can't convince them to try that desert, I thought they would enjoy some above-average ice cream. (They come from an especially chain-infested part of the country (Florida).) Is there an above-average ice cream place nearby? Preferably towards the waterfront or north end, not the other direction, as they are staying at Marriott Long Wharf and will probably be going to bed afterwards. Two kids are involved, so the closer the better. Thanks.

You should make them eat the Indian pudding!
It comes with vanilla ice cream, anyway.

      Yes, I will! :-)

If not, the Modern is actually a good call. And the Gelateria.

      Thanks, y'all.

There are also a number of gelaterias in the North End - I bet they haven't had anything approaching hazelnut gelato in Florida.

Gelateria on Hanover - owned by the folks of the Il Panino fame is pretty good and a cool space.

I haven't been to the marketplace in years but I remember a Steve's Ice Cream and a Frozen Yogurt shop in the central food court.

Perhaps someone else can confirm that they are still there.

This doesn't answer what you asked, but consider taking them into the North End for dessert from Modern Pastries. The short walk would be a great way to show out-of-towners an essential part of Boston.
