Birthday dinner in orange county

Any suggestions for a good place for a birthday dinner in Orange County. Dinner will be friends (age-range is 30's) plus family will be present. Suggestions have been Maggianos's at South Coast Plaza but anything else?

any kind of food, any price range (its hard to find a place that has a relaxed, great atmosphere with great food)

    2. Habana
Address: 2930 Bristol St # A110, Costa Mesa, CA 92626

I second Habana as a fab place to go - great atmosphere, yummy sangria by the pitcher and pretty tasty food. However, it is kind of romantic, so if you are looking for loud and boisterous or family oriented this is not really the place.

Memphis, on the same block, is really good but really small.

Here I go again...but for Italian, the patio at Roman Cucina (on PCH in Sunset Beach) is ideal - great ambience, amazing simple Italian food, gorgeous waiters (not that that matters...) and really conducive to large parties.

I would skip Maggianos, overpriced and mediocre food. Depending on the size of the party, the Melting Pot on Dupont in Irvine is a really fun experience if you like your meal to be a several hour affair. I think it's a great time, but some people don't like it.

Chat Noir (on Anton, near South Coast Plaza) is nice too, a little pricy though. The lamb is delicious but skip the souffle - it was not worth the calories.

      2. For a birthday celebration, I love the atmosphere and food at Sage Restaurant in the Eastbluffs shopping center. Outstanding food and very relaxed inside. Love it. Zov's is another place...they just remodeled their main restaurant (meaning not the bakery/bistro side) and again, outstanding and memorable desserts and delicious food.

        1. You can't go wrong at Zov's and I also love The Black Sheep Bistro in Tustin.

          1. I really enjoyed my bday dinner at Chat Noir. We had a party of 8 and they sat us in the covered patio outside, in the round cabana so it felt very exclusive. Food is pricey but good and there's live jazz after 8 or 9pm.

            1. Second Chat Noir. Also, French 75 or Zov's Bistro.

              1. I agrere with Memphis but the Santa Ana branch instead of the Costa Mesa one...... Zov's is also excellent.

                1. Try the Beachfire Grill in Ladera Ranch. There is a great lanai surrounding the whole restaurant reminiscent of an Island type porch. This is a fun place and is a hip place. If you like teppan and sushi, the Riptide at the Kaleidoscope off of Crown Valley is another cool place. This is another hip place with good sushi and water running down glass walls giving it a really cool feel. The drinks are also good and if you get there early, happy hour is till 6:00 pm, alot of the appetizers are half off.
